Is this the post that gets us all into a fight?
I love food I love breakfast I love Disneyland. And because of that I’ve tried all the different breakfast options at Disneyland and I’ve also read a lot of other blog posts/ social media posts recommending different breakfast spots in Disneyland and not to be *that* person but I disagree with pretty much all of said posts. And not to also be *that* person saying those people are wrong and I’m right but I’m pretty sure I’m right on at least this one thing.
***I’ve bolded the food selections we’ve tried for each spot if ya just feel like skimming.***
Galactic Grill
Our number one breakfast spot for life and it’s forever overlooked! Exactly zero people talk about Galactic Grill breakfast and if you follow us on instagram I make up for ALL OF THAT because I never stop talking about Galactic Grill Breakfast. You can’t go wrong at the Galactic Grill in Tomorrowland. The window where you order isn’t anything fancy, but we always sit at the tables right across from the Nemo Submarines and it’s one of the loveliest ways to start our Disneyland day.
Kat and Stephen get the breakfast burrito which has eggs, bacon, sausage, hashbrowns (THAT’S RIGHT), salsa and cheese. I get the Loaded Breakfast Sandwich which is pretty much the same as the breakfast burrito without the salsa and on a brioche (BRIOCHE YOU GUYS) bun, and it’s SO GOOD. And then we’ll usually share the French Toast Sticks, which are so crispy and perfect and now I’m super hungry. Galactic Grill also has their own fancy flavored iced coffee that switches flavors seasonally.
They have an extensive allergy-friendly menu but other than the fruit cup, there aren’t any other vegan options.
Jolly Holiday
Jolly Holiday is another favorite breakfast spot. You’ll find it to the left of the Adventureland entrance. I recommend utilizing mobile order because the line can get pretty long. This is a great spot because they offer savory breakfast options as well as their full selection of pastries (which are all so good). Plus they have espresso machines so it’s one of the few spots besides Starbucks where you can pick up any espresso drink. We like to come here for iced americanos because it’s difficult to find actual iced coffee in the parks that’s not Starbucks. My favorites are the croissant breakfast sandwich and the quiche.
Ronto Roasters
Ronto Roasters in Galaxy’s Edge does a breakfast version of their Ronto Wrap and it’s good, y’all! It’s the standard Ronto Wrap (pork sausage, peppercorn sauce) without the slaw BUT with eggs and cheese, all wrapped up in that pita that’s also a delicious cloud. I know in the afternoon they offer a Ronto-less Wrap, which has a plant-based sausage instead of pork. If you’re vegetarian, it’s worth asking if could get the ronto-less link in the breakfast wrap.
They also offer Rising Moons Overnight Oats, which are oats, yogurt, berries, and popping boba (interesting choice). I haven’t tried it, yet, because when I’m in Disneyland it would physically hurt me to order oatmeal but I’ll update y’all if that ever changes.
Carnation Cafe
Carnation Cafe is a favorite among many, and I find it...pretty good? There are lots of options, and the environment with its ultra vintage charm nestled into Main Street can’t be beat. This is also one of the few spots you can get vegan Mickey waffles (FYI, the standard waffles aren’t vegan, you have to ask specifically for the vegan waffles).
I usually either get the Apple-Granola Pancakes or the Spinach and Tomato Egg-White Frittata (which is Mickey shaped), Kat never passes up the Mickey Waffle, and Stephen tends to go for the All-American Breakfast. All are good! They can also do iced americanos which is a fantastic find for a group of iced coffee lovers like us.
Good food, but the selections themselves aren’t something I’m ever craving.
Red Rose Tavern
Ah, Red Rose Tavern. This is probably where the most contention comes in. It’s not good! And not only is it not good, it’s bad. Like gross bad. I’ve tried to send back food because I thought something went terribly wrong when I could pick up my sunny side up egg and throw it like a frisbee (I didn’t but I could have!) and they said that’s how the egg was. Always. Just plastic hard. Anyway don’t get the breakfast hash.
All of the food was that level of questionable.
We tried it again after enough time had passed, and it was a better experience but not good enough to want to go again. Stephen got the breakfast burger which was okay, and I got the stuffed french toast which *everyone* talks about and it was...gross. It was gross, guys. It was goopy. Goopy! Do not recommend.
Breakfast Chimichanga
I have yet to try this! But I hear it’s amazing, which I would question because Red Rose Tavern has torched my trust in everyone and everything BUT I do love the regular chimichanga so I have faith in this one. You can find the breakfast chimichanga at the food stand across from Big Thunder Railroad, to the right of the Mark Twain waiting area.
Plaza Inn
I love Plaza Inn fried chicken. It’s one of my all-time favorite Disneyland meals. If you want a Plaza Inn fix, I’d recommend going for lunch. For breakfast, they do a character breakfast buffet, and out of all of the amazing character breakfasts at the resort, I think this one is the most underwhelming. The characters are fun (and pretty unique), and the spot itself is nice (on the right of Main Street, just before you turn right to head into Tomorrowland), but the buffet itself is lacking. There’s not a lot of options. If you’re going to drop some coin on character breakfast, I say go for Goofy’s Kitchen or Storytellers.
Flo’s V8 Cafe
Flo’s is my favorite breakfast spot in DCA. Plus there’s never a line and there’s always tons of seating. I find Flo’s to be the opposite of Plaza Inn. Do breakfast here and skip lunch. Plus lunch through dinner is ALWAYS bonkers.
The two breakfast standouts are the Brioche French Toast (complete with salted caramel sauce and bananas) and the Chicken Tamale breakfast. I always substitute potatoes for the eggs when I get the tamale because I don’t love Disney scrambled eggs (I’m pretty sure they start off as powder).
It’s a calm spot in the morning and a charming way to start the day off.
Lamplight Brunch
We finally got reservations for Lamplight brunch, which was harder than expected! All-around, we enjoyed it, although it’s a little pricey. We’ll likely go back, but we’re not rushing to do so.
It does very much feel like a proper brunch though, because you can get boozy drinks to go with your food. I got my standard brunch drink, a bloody mary (mimosas give me a headache), but Kat and Stephen split the mimosa flight and they enjoyed it!
I want to try the brunch again because they have a large selection and we could only try a few things. I got the Indulgent French Toast and I’m not sure I’d get it again but I still think it’s worth trying. It was *very* boozy and pretty rich altogether, but I’m also a bad candidate for this because I usually prefer savory breakfasts. It delivers on its description, and I think it was more of a “me” problem than anything else.
Stephen got the Brunch Burger which was good, and Kat got the New York Avocado Toast which won breakfast. It was *so* good and also it comes with steak so you can’t go wrong.
I’m also very interested in trying out the Flautas (vegan) and Chilaquiles (vegetarian).
Tangaroa Terrace
You’ll find Tangaroa Terrace at the Disneyland Hotel right next to Trader Sam’s. They recently switched up the Tangaroa Terrace menu which is great because the breakfast was pretty underwhelming. They still have the acai chia bowl, which I don’t recommend. The Tangaroa Toast is pretty good, but I’m reaaaalllly interested in trying their Japanese Fluffy Pancakes. I’d say, if you’re in the area or staying at the hotel, give it a try, but don’t go out of you way to eat there.
Hotel Character Breakfasts
Each of the three on-property hotels (Disneyland Hotel, Grand Californian, Paradise Pier) has their own character breakfast. There are considerations and trade-offs for Goofy’s Kitchen (Disneyland Hotel) and Storyteller’s (Grand Californian) but I don’t recommend doing Donald’s Seaside Breakfast (Paradise Pier). The selection is small and the environment is dark and sad and it’s not worth it and there are like three or four very overworked characters.
I prefer Goofy’s Kitchen at the Disneyland Hotel because I think there’s a bigger food selection and the buffet itself it set up better so it’s easier to grab food without waiting in a line. However, it definitely needs a decor update. It’s a little worn down and it shows.
The Character Breakfast at Storyteller’s at the Grand Californian is also good. I don’t find the food selection to be too exciting and the way it’s set up can be annoying because it’s just one big line. But the environment itself is really nice and pretty.
Both have lots of characters walking around for meet and greets and pictures.
✨So there you have it! My favorites and least favorites, and if I taught you nothing else, as long as you beeline to Galactic Grill next time you’re in the parks then I have done my job. Happy eating!✨
Welcome to Lost Weekender Lockdown! Where Kat and I make fools of ourselves trying to recreate Trader Sam’s Drinks so we can feel something close to magic or happiness again. We started with a recipe for Gorilla Grogg, which is a base used in a few different Trader Sam’s drinks like the Uh Oa or Lost Safari.
